A love story that started a quiet rebellion
Anne & Valentin began, fittingly, as a love story. Anne, an artist, and Valentin, an optician, were a couple in Toulouse who shared the same frustration: the frames on offer in the early 1980s were uniform, uninspiring and impersonal.
Rather than settle, Anne began sketching her own designs. In 1984, those drawings became the brand’s first collection, and a new approach to eyewear was born, one built on colour, character and craft rather than conformity.
That founding spirit still runs through everything the brand makes. Anne & Valentin remain proudly independent, with frames designed to reveal personality rather than hide it.
Design that turns heads, on purpose
What sets Anne & Valentin apart is a willingness to be bold. Think rich, unexpected colour, geometric and almost architectural shapes, and the brand’s signature veneers that blend two colours on a single frame.
The result is eyewear that feels closer to wearable sculpture than to an off-the-shelf accessory. It is glasses for people who want to express themselves, whether that is with a quiet flash of colour or a frame that becomes the centrepiece of their look. If you are not sure which shades would suit you, our guide to choosing the perfect frame colour for your skin tone is a lovely place to start.
Made in France, by hand
Behind the playful designs sits serious craftsmanship. Anne & Valentin frames are handmade in France, with each pair passing through a long, meticulous hand-cutting and finishing process.
The acetate is custom-developed for the brand’s distinctive colours, and its metal and titanium work is just as considered. That attention to detail is what gives these frames their quality feel and their longevity. If you would like to understand how different materials wear and feel, our guide to eyewear frame materials and styles breaks it down in plain language.
The frame should fit you, not the other way around
From the very beginning, Anne & Valentin worked on a simple but radical principle: find the right frame for the person, rather than asking the person to settle for whatever is on the shelf. The brand itself describes the optician as essential to placing the right frame on the right face.
That philosophy could not align more closely with how we work. We take the time to understand your face shape, your colouring, your prescription and the way you live, then guide you towards frames that genuinely suit you. And because great frames deserve great lenses, we will talk you through the prescription glasses and lens options that will give you the clearest, most comfortable vision.

Why craft eyewear belongs at Perspective
There is a reason brands like Anne & Valentin are sold through carefully chosen independent opticians rather than mass-market chains. Expressive, characterful frames need to be seen, tried and fitted in person, with honest guidance from someone who knows both eyewear and eyes.
That is the heart of what we do. Every client gets an unhurried appointment, the time to try and compare without pressure, and styling advice we genuinely believe in. It is also why we curate a niche collection of independent, craft-led brands instead of the same frames you see everywhere. You can read more about our approach on our why we are different page.
It all starts with a thorough, comprehensive eye examination. If you would like an independent overview of what a sight test involves, the College of Optometrists explains it well in their guide to the eye examination.
