Children’s eye examinations – ensuring your little one’s eyes develop healthily
If you’re a parent, you probably see your child’s health as more important than your own.
We understand your concern – that’s why we’re specialists in children’s eyecare and the dispensing of children’s glasses.
At what age can my child have their eyes tested?
Ideally as early as possible, although most professional bodies recommend that children should begin eye checks at around the age of two. Following children’s vision care tips can help establish good visual habits early, ensuring their eyes develop healthily and any potential issues are identified promptly.
Having your child’s eyesight assessed at an early age allows good visual habits to be established for their future. Regular eye exams help you spot vision issues early, which is essential for preventing long-term problems.
When bringing your child for an assessment, we explain what to expect in a pediatric eye exam, so you and your little one feel comfortable and informed throughout the process.
Following the exam, our optometrists provide practical children’s eye health tips to support healthy vision development and ensure your child’s eyes stay in the best possible condition.

How will my child benefit from an eye examination?
Children can be detrimentally affected by poor vision in several ways.
If they can’t see to read a book or the board in the classroom is blurred, for instance, their education will be impacted. If they cannot see effectively, their hand-eye coordination and depth perception will be poor, meaning sports will be less enjoyable than for other children. This can lead to behavioural issues.
All it takes to solve this problem is a regular children’s eye test. If your child is struggling with their vision, we can help, all in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Are there any tell-tale signs that my child needs their eyes examined?
Your child may require an eye test if:
- They are suffering from regular headaches
- They are having difficulty concentrating , are sitting too close to the TV or hold a book very close when reading
- Blinking or rubbing their eyes often
- Clumsiness
- A turning eye – either in or out, constantly or intermittently
Even if your child doesn’t exhibit any of these symptoms, we recommend having them checked regularly.
